Reflect & Connect helps supervisors make student employment a meaningful learning experience through short, intentional conversations.
What It Is
Reflect & Connect is a flexible framework for learning-focused conversations. It helps students recognize transferable skills, communicate their experience, and connect campus employment to future goals. It is not a performance evaluation, additional paperwork, or a career advising session.
The Four Questions
- What are you learning in this role?
- How are you learning it?
- Why does this learning matter to you?
- How will you use this learning in the future?
When to Use It
- During a regular check-in or one-on-one
- After a project, accomplishment, or challenge
- At midsemester or the end of the semester
- Whenever five to ten minutes are available for reflection
Supervisor Role
Listen, ask follow-up questions, and help the student put language to what they are learning. Keep task and performance conversations separate when possible so the developmental purpose remains clear.
